Sinking of the Titanic
“The Sinking of the Titanic” uses aleatoric practices and indeterminate instrumentation to create dramatic effect and narrative arc. This is a great opportunity to hear some interesting musical devices in practice. The piece employs off-stage music and does not use a conductor but is organized by each player’s individual timer. It is successful in its use of timbral color to create the eerie presence of the historic catastrophe, capturing the essence of our now one-hundred-year fascination. Ensemble LPR will be playing this one with our friends from the Wordless Music Orchestra and it should be a meaningful way of marking a poignant occasion.
