Violist Nadia Sirota is releasing her newest album Baroque is not actually comprised of baroque music. The album instead explores what it is to compose music for a solo instrumentalist in 2013. Six different composers — Nico Muhly, Daniel Bjarnason, Paul Corley, Shara Worden, Judd Greenstein, Missy Mazzoli — write pieces that compliment Sirota’s unique sound and recording style.
You can preview a couple tracks from Baroque below via the Bandcamp widget or you can head over to NPR Music to hear Judd Greenstein’s “In Teaching Others We Teach Ourselves.”
You can see Sirota perform pieces from Baroque when she opens for Valgeir Sigru∂sson at LPR on March 27.
