Vincent Peirani

Like all popular music, jazz is associated with strong personalities. International recognition of accordionist Vincent Peirani rests on that essential, fundamental quality. His musical charisma, his very distinctive creative skills, his unique approach to his art – all of which are the fruit of a very open, unblinkered attitude – strike the listener immediately. After brilliant studies in classical music (many international awards), his dive into the world of jazz received the seal of success from the start and was crowned at the Victoires du Jazz in 2014 (“Revelation”) and 2015 (“Artist of the Year”). Vincent Peirani has the ability to turn everything he touches into gold: in jazz, of course (his own projects, but also collaborations with Daniel Humair, Michel Portal, and others), but also in chanson (Sanseverino, Les Yeux Noirs), film music (composer for Mathieu Almaric’s Barbara in 2017), and so on. Whatever the style, the public follows: in his performances, he creates a balance between the relatively straightforward (inventive revivals of well-known themes) and a blessed unexpectedness, with art music and popular music very close to each other, a sign of great artistry. The man who, ten years ago, completely renewed the language of the accordion (and continues to do so) has become a major artist, whose uninhibited, cosmopolitan view of music and sense of instrumental combination and colour, enable him to bring that rare and precious magical touch to everything he does.

Emile Parisien

One of Europe’s pre-eminent soprano saxophonists, Émile Parisien is known for his engaging modern creative jazz and post-bop. Well-versed in both jazz and classical, Parisien’s sound fuses such influences as John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, and Wynton Marsalis with the work of composers like Hector Berlioz and Arnold Schoenberg. Based in Paris since the early 2000s, he gained attention with albums like 2006’s Au Revoir Porc-Épic, 2009’s Original Pimpant, and 2012’s Chien Guêpe. He garnered acclaim for this work, winning the 2012 Prix Django Reinhardt, taking Artist of the Year at the Victoires du Jazz 2014, and winning a 2017 Echo Jazz award. With the ACT label, Parisien has explored a variety of settings, from duets with French accordionist Vincent Peirani, as on 2014’s Belle Époque, to quintet albums like 2016’s Sfumato with German pianist Joachim Kühn to 2022’s Louise, featuring his sextet with trumpeter Theo Croker.

Avishai Cohen Quartet

There is a searching, yearning quality to Naked Truth, and a raw beauty and vulnerability in Avishai Cohen’s trumpet sound throughout. Very much music-of-the moment, found and shaped in the course of a remarkable recording session in the South of France, Naked Truth takes the form of an extemporaneous suite. For most of its length the Israeli trumpeter painstakingly leads the way, closely shadowed by his long-time comrades — pianist Yonathan Avishai, bassist Barak Mori and drummer Ziv Ravitz — who share an intuitive understanding, hyper alert to the music’s subtly-changing emphases. At the album’s conclusion, Cohen recites “Departure”, a poem by Zelda Schneurson Mishkovsky, whose themes of renunciation, acceptance and letting go seem optimally-attuned to the mood of the music.

Nicole Glover

Saxophonist Nicole Glover has worked with Victor Lewis, Billy Hart, Reggie Workman, Esperanza Spalding, Dee Dee Bridgewater, George Cables, Kenny Washington, Renee Rosnes, George Garzone, Gene Perla, George Colligan, Bennie Maupin, Mike Clark, Jeff Tain Watts, Joe Farnsworth, Geoffrey Keezer, Ben Wolfe, Allison Miller, David Weiss, Luis Perdomo, Mel Brown, Jason Brown, Bill Goodwin, and Rodney Green. Nicole has performed on 5 continents, including performances at the Newport Jazz Festival, Red Sea Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival. She is a member of several touring bands, including Latin-Grammy Artist Buika and Blue Note supergroup ARTEMIS. Nicole is on faculty at The New School for Jazz and Improvised Music.
