THE MIXED MEDIA METHOD:

We believe there is strength in numbers, we believe in community, and we believe in the art of layering. When many different forms of media are used together, it is not only important to choose the layers carefully, but equally important to build a sturdy foundation upon which those different layers are imposed. This is the basis of any collective that has historically formed the artistic spine of New York City.

Alycia Mayhew CD Release

Alycia Mayhew is a New York City based singer/songwriter pianist who has been performing up and down the East Coast, Central New York and throughout New York City since the age of 16. Alycia has frequented iconic NYC stages such as CB’s Gallery, Arlene’s Grocery and The Bitter End, to name a few.

After releasing her first full-length album, “In My Own Words”, in 2003, Alycia went on to study Music Industry at The College of Saint Rose. Here, Alycia had the opportunity to open for international artists such as Mieka Pauley, Rachael Sage and Breaking Laces among others. In 2007, Alycia released her EP, “Matches in Gasoline” with seasoned NYC-based producers, Mark Ambrosino and Chris Liberti.

A classically trained pianist since the age of 5, Alycia weaves the technique and nuance of a classical and Jazz piano background with her intuitive and emotional spirit. A poet and lyricist, Alycia’s vocals can at once take you off guard and make you listen closer. Her intent is to help the audience to feel, whether it be relating to the story of a song, the places a melody can take you, or the way a lyric can capture exactly where you’ve been before.

After being off the grid for some time, Alycia has spent the past two years in and out of the studio between LA-based NightBird Recording Studios and Masterdisk in New York. Alycia has resurfaced to share her songs again with this much-anticipated third album release for Fall 2015.

Rebecca Larson

Rebecca Larson has worked in the nightlife and entertainment industry in New York City for nearly a decade. Dedicated to keeping the culture and spirit of music alive, she has hosted music events and variety shows at The National Underground, Aspen Social Club, and GTR Showroom. In 2013, she joined the podcast “Boom Done Live” as the music and talent coordinator, guest hosting on several episodes. She is currently developing an underground music magazine dedicated to connecting fans to live music and DJ sets in NYC.

Andrea Grant

Andrea Grant is a writer, editor, and multimedia artist. She began her career with the launch of the mixed media-themed “Copious Magazine” which gained an underground following and associated itself with the spoken-word scene. She subsequently went on to publish hundreds of essays, poetry, and art photographs in various international publications.

In 2009, she published her first poetry collection “The Pin-Up Poet,” a re-invention of classic female stereotypes in a postmodern context, using herself in the guise of different characters, shot by top photographers. The women in these poems are modern in totality—they drink too much vodka, smoke to calm their nerves, hide behind the armor of black clothing and lingerie. These women are at once lustful and neurotic, they burn cookies and they can’t sleep. They are both predators and victims, empowered by their choices to leave unhappy relationships, but lonely and haunted by the ghosts of old lovers.

Grant’s passion for merging words with visuals expanded into the realm of comic books, and in 2011 she launched “MINX: Dream War,” a graphic novel series that merges Native American mythology with contemporary fantasy.

After working in the editorial & advertising field for top publishing companies such as Conde Nast and Meredith Corporation, she launched Copious Consulting (www.copious-consulting.com), a digital communications agency designed to create unique, authentic content for top brands.

Apryll Aileen

Apryll Aileen is a passionate songbird – as a singer and songwriter, she has awed audiences of thousands with her intense, smoky vocals while her fingers have graced the grand piano ivory keys. Her stage show truly captivates and turns listeners into participants in the stories shared through her lyrical content.

In February 2014, she ended her corporate career and dedicated her time to pursuing her passion – writing and performing music. With a soulful and groovy style, her first single “Hey Sugar” made it to 97.3 The Wave Radio’s Battle of the New Sounds. Her second recorded song, “Butterflies” is the soundtrack song for LA based Actor/Writer/Director Cayman Grant’s short film, “Butterflies”. The song, produced by Kenny Munshaw, seeks to capture the innocence of young love, coupled with the realization that the moment can’t last forever. She’s currently working on her first album “Savannah Soul,” launching Fall 2015.

Mad Meg

Mad Meg consists of singer-songwriter Ilya Popenko, with his unorthodox raspy baritone, and a perpetually changing constellation of musicians. At the core of the band is always Kazakh rock drummer Ruslan Baymurzin, Berklee-educated jazz pianist Jason Laney, sexy Mexican import Vero Medelin on bass, and the multifaceted Igor Reznik on guitar.

Mad Meg’s sound is eclectic, with elements of jazz, classic rock, punk, Russian folk, and cabaret music. The songs, haunting and neurotic, possess a fair amount of debauchery, tragicomedy, and nostalgia. Dark and awkward lyrics paint a disturbing picture of a daily life of a lone urban dweller set to the background of upbeat minor key melodies. In Ilya’s words: “These are the songs about The Great American Indoors.”
Currently based in NYC, Mad Meg has released one EP entitled “Shake It Like You’re Dead” and is now in the finishing stages of putting out their first full length album. The band frequents many local NYC stages such as Bowery Electric, Mercury Lounge, The Delancy, and Arlene’s grocery.

Ian Slarsky

Ian Slarsky has been working as a ‘blind contour’ artist for several years, most notably at live events. He loves concentrating on a certain object for a small amount of time, be it in the middle of a busy brunch party, the crowds of Times Square, or a library. He believes that allowing a pen to trace what he’s looking at is a gift.

“Blind contour refers to a method of drawing in which the artist draws a line and never looks at the paper. It takes what one sees with one’s eye and with study allows the hand to trace the image from one’s brain. I pursue this method because of the ways it captures the essence of my subject,” says Slarsky.

“Our world is so driven to perfection that we often stop what we are doing simply because we know we cannot be perfect at it. GO – DO IT. FAIL. Failing is just another term for perfecting an action. If your science experiment blows up, you go back and do it again, and with some more errors, and you might even get it right. Enjoy being imperfect. That’s the best part about people, we can be. My art simply shows that there aren’t any wrongs, it’s the enjoyment of figuring out how to get from point A to point B with one line without looking and creating what you see.”
