Internationally acclaimed pianist Taka Kigawa returns to (Le) Poisson Rouge for a solo recital marking the 100th anniversary of Pierre Boulez’s birth. The program features Boulez’s complete solo piano works, including Twelve Notations, First Sonata, Second Sonata, Third Sonata (with the recently published Formant 1: Antiphonie), Incises, and Une page d’éphéméride.

Renowned for his authoritative interpretations of Boulez’s challenging scores, Kigawa has performed this repertoire to critical acclaim worldwide. The New York Times lauded his ability to bring “exhilarating energy and myriad colorings” to these fiercely difficult works, while Boulez himself praised his playing as “precise, and at the same time inventive.”

A Juilliard graduate, Kigawa has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Cité de la Musique (Paris), Palau de la Música Catalana (Barcelona), Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), and more, collaborating with leading conductors and composers including Boulez, Unsuk Chin, Myung-Whun Chung, Jonathan Nott, and Yusef Lateef. This concert is a must for fans of contemporary and 20th-century piano music.
