Pianist Taka Kigawa returns to (le) Poisson Rouge on August 29 for another dazzling solo recital. A regular presence at LPR since its founding, Kigawa has consistently captivated audiences with his phenomenal artistry, refined technique, and commanding musical imagination.
For this special evening, Kigawa presents Claude Debussy’s Préludes — Complete, one of the most seminal and enchanting piano cycles of the twentieth century. A pioneering voice of modern music, Claude Debussy created a world of sound rich in color, atmosphere and mystery—music that has long been central to Kigawa’s artistic identity.
Kigawa has performed Debussy’s Préludes extensively around the world, earning widespread acclaim for his interpretations. The New York Times praised his playing as “carefully shaded and texturally transparent,” adding that “he knows how to make this music sparkle,” particularly in Feux d’artifice, with its “fiery washes of sound.” The paper also noted his gift for capturing Debussy’s sense of mystery and nuance.
Argentina’s leading newspaper, La Nación, hailed Kigawa as “a phenomenal virtuoso,” citing the “perfection of hues, articulations, and rhythms” throughout Debussy’s Préludes.
This immersive performance of Debussy’s complete Préludes promises an unforgettable evening of sound, color, and imagination.
