LPR Presents Sunday Night Soul & Cocoa, a January Residency at Threes Brewing: 333 Douglass St, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Complimentary hot chocolate and chocolates served by Raaka Chocolate

Raaka makes craft chocolate from scratch without roasting in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Instead of roasting, we look for innovative and creative methods to develop flavor, such as aging cacao in bourbon casks or steaming cacao over simmering wine. Our mission is to preserve the complex and surprising flavors of cacao, and create an adventurous and novel chocolate tasting experience.

Space Captain

Space Captain is a Brooklyn based psych-soul band signed to Brighton’s Tru Thoughts and includes members Maralisa Simmons-Cook (vocalist/lyricist), Alex Pyle (bass and production), Gray Hall (guitar and production), Mike Haldeman (guitar), Joey Ziegler (drums), Joy Morales (keyboard) and Lessie Vonner (trumpet). The group has appeared with BADBADNOTGOOD, Ghostface Killah, J. Viewz, Dresses, Kendra Morris and more. Lauren Laverne of BBC Radio 6 Music calls them “really interesting…a sound of their own.”

Their initial release, Easier / Remedy, a double A-side reissue of two early tracks, received heavy play from Don Letts (BBC 6Music) and new music guru John Kennedy on his XFM X-posure show. In a period of open-minded experimentation via live shows and studio jams, Space Captain have alighted on a progressive fusion of r&b and psychedelic rock into soul with tentacles spinning out, hip hop, electronica and noise. The In Memory EP finds singer/lyricist Maralisa Simmons-Cook exploring darker, more personal subjects with themes of mourning, the life cycle, lightness verses darkness, death and rebirth. In Memory has since seen notable play on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Playlist, BBC Radio 6 Music and Bandcamp Weekly. Michael Gonzales (The Wire) wrote, “Space Captain’s embrace of beauty is obvious. But it’s nice to know they can get ugly when they want to.”

In an era when genre blending/ bending has become the norm and the computer has become musician’s best friend, it’s seems as if the stage has been set for an artist like Brittany Campbell to emerge. An award winning singer-songwriter/producer and visual artist, Brittany combines elements of RnB, Pop,Edm, Reggae and Alt Rock while serving fantastical imagery by way of MUSIC VIDEO! Brittany got her start in 2011 after her return to NYC. She met with producer/engineer, Rich Keller (DMX, Danity Kane, Mariah Carey) who helped navigate her through her first EP (NERD).

Brittany released her first full length album (Black Summer) late 2012. After 2 years of touring, international collaborations (DJ Okawari, Gomi) and songwriting, she followed up with (Heroes) in 2014. That record not only spawned a fair amount of press attention (Hof Magazine exclaming that “She’s one of those next-level talents who has her hands in everything. And as you can see, she’s fly as hell too. ” and MTVU stating that Brittany “… combines a transcendent voice with a uniquely distinct visual style and attitude…One of our favorite discoveries from the last couple of years.” It also was the first record to have airplay on over 200 stations nationwide making top 10 lists on numerous programs.
