Runnin’ on Empty is a monthly stand-up show with nothing to lose! The show features a mix of pros and up-and-comers, from people who last performed on Conan to people who last performed to three tumbleweeds. To be fair, those tumbleweeds hadn’t laughed that hard in years. Join us at the show critics are calling “Best comedy in the city, I am so proud” (Lisa’s Mom) and “My baby is going to Hollywood!” (Yotam’s Mom).

Hosts/soul-siblings Yotam Tubul and Lisa Franklin first met in a college stand-up group, where Yotam told Lisa “I think your joke is more cute than funny,” and she replied “You’re probably right.” Since then, they’ve been thick as thieves.

Myq Kaplan is a comedian named Myq Kaplan (pronounced “Mike”). He is a 2010 Last Comic Standing Finalist and has appeared on the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, the Late Show with David Letterman, Comedy Central Presents, and all the other places he’s been. You can listen to Myq’s podcast, Hang Out With Me, on the Keith and The Girl network. His debut CD, Vegan Mind Meld, was one of iTunes’ top ten best-selling comedy albums in 2010, followed by Meat Robot in 2013 and his one-hour Netflix special Small Dork and Handsome in 2014.

Chanel Ali is a standup comedian who blossomed on the Philadelphia circuit before moving to New York City in 2015. Her stage presence and story teller style make her a crowd favorite as she covers her upbringing, her world view and life as a comedian who doubles as a polite person in real life. She was recently featured on an episode of Night Train with Wyatt Cenac and has performed at Carolines on Broadway and New York Comedy Club regularly. Chanel has opened for nationally touring comedians like Rachel Feinstein, Anna Drezen and Michael Che.

Philip has performed and produced in hundreds of shows and taught students of acting and improv internationally, from Berlin to Bali. Philip graduated from Northwestern University and trained in Chicago at The Annoyance, iO, and Second City. He moved to NYC in 2013 to launch the theatre and training center of The Annoyance Theater NY, where he acted as its Executive Director until Fall 2016. He is now the Founder and Artistic Director of The Brooklyn Comedy Collective, where he currently teaches and performs. Philip is also a faculty member at Tom Todoroff’s acting studio and independently teaches business improvisation classes to large clients (such as AMEX, E&Y) and small start-ups alike. As a storyteller, he has performed at The Moth and The Paper Machete. He is a proud member of the children’s education theatre companies The Story Pirates and Barrel of Monkeys. He executive produced, wrote, and acted in the digital shorts series “The Annoyance Presents” on IFC’s Comedy Crib. Philip has written a one-man show, Sparkle Hour, which was featured to rave reviews in the 2013 NY International Fringe Festival. He regularly produces his monthly show The Sparkle Zone, which played at the historic Joe’s Pub in June, 2018.

Sherm Jacobs is a comedian living in Brooklyn. He has performed at the Orlando Indie Comedy Fest and the Tampa International Fringe Fest and has opened for national headliners such as Matthew Broussard, Aparna Nancherla, and Chris Redd. He cohosts the weekly standup show Ambush the Pizza Shop and the monthly comedy variety show Comedy by Proxy. Sherm also cohosts the Green Comedy Podcast, available on iTunes. His writing has appeared in Chortle, The Comic’s Comic, and Newest York. Sherm’s comedy has been described as “wholesomely disgusting,” and his mother would like you to know that he’s a very nice boy.

Victoria Hoffman is a New York City comedian who is originally from Dallas, TX but left immediately after graduation when she realized that Texas is boring as hell. She currently performs stand up all over the city and has been seen in the Boston Comedy Festival, Dallas Comedy Festival, Harlem Comedy Festival, Musikfest Comedyplatz and Gilda’s Laugh Fest. She hosts the Babes in Boyland podcast and produces an annual show every October that raises money for Lady Parts Justice.

Ashley Brooke Roberts is a writer, actor, and comedian from Chapel Hill, NC.

Currently residing in Brooklyn, she is a house performer at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade theater on the sketch team Absolutely. She’s performed stand-up all over the world, including the Boston Comedy Festival and the Women in Comedy Festival. Her writing has been featured in the Apiary, Huffington Post and MTV’s Guy Code blog.
