Pan American & Kramer

Kramer is a composer/musician/filmmaker and the founder of Shimmy-Disc. In the 1980s & 90’s, he produced hundreds of recordings at his Noise New York and Noise New Jersey studios. As a producer, it was there that he helped to create seminal recordings for artists as diverse as Daniel Johnston, Galaxie 500, Half Japanese, Pussy Galore, Urge Overkill, Will Oldham, and LOW, to name but a small few. He lives and works in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

Mark Nelson is a producer, songwriter and guitarist living in Evanston, IL. Active as a recording artist since 1993, he currently performs and records as Pan American. He is also a member of Labradford and Anjou. He has released tracks and full records on the labels Kranky, Mute, Blast first, Warp, Longform Editions, and many others. He has performed extensively in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan.

Big Bend

Last Circle in a Slowdown (Shimmy-disc), the anticipated follow-up to Big Bend’s acclaimed Radish (2019) is a monument to listening through the veil of time and space. Ohio native and primary songwriter, Nathan Phillips, returned to live recordings of ensemble jam sessions he hosted at a residency in Australia and collaged those recordings alongside co-producer Shahzad Ismaily to make Last Circle in a Slowdown. Reflective, hi-fi, and elemental, the folk-meets-freeform sonics evoke rich 90s acoustic rock and jazz influenced British post pop songwriting. Lyrical observations of nature’s mystery and modes of regeneration consider the looming chance all things could move in any direction. – Lyndsay Knecht (Red Hot Org)
