Finnish outfit ORANSSI PAZUZU has just announced a run of headlining North American tour dates for October. The tour will follow the band’s previously announced US performances in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, including their participation at the massive Psycho Las Vegas gathering, and marks their first-ever tour on North American soil. Direct support for ORANSSI PAZUZU on the entire tour will be provided by Insect Ark.

Following several one-off performances at Maryland Deathfest and more over recent years, ORANSSI PAZUZU will now make their way back to North American shores in August for two special shows. The band will play a one-off show in Los Angeles on August 14th, preceding their performance on August 17th at the massive Psycho Las Vegas gala, where they join the likes of The Original Misfits, High On Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Bad Religion, Carcass, Old Man Gloom, Power Trip, and many others.

ORANSSI PAZUZU will follow these performances with their long-awaited maiden North American tour. The newly confirmed trek will see the band traversing the eastern half of North America with bi-coastal US avant/ethereal duo Insect Ark. The tour runs from October 10th through October 19th, with shows in Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Raleigh, and Atlanta. Watch for additional dates to be added over the months ahead.

Since birth, Finnish psychedelic black metal experimenters ORANSSI PAZUZU have never been satisfied to stick with a formula. Each album has seen the band expand upon its previous incarnation and then, like a supernova, blow it up and transform again into something recognizable but completely new.

Having partnered with 20 Buck Spin in North America and Svart Records in Europe, in 2013, the band issued their Valonielu LP, an album of timeless creative immensity that was met with ubiquitous praise throughout the world and solidified the band’s position as one of the most forward-thinking and interesting metal bands. ORANSSI PAZUZU returned in 2016 with their fourth album, the mind-bending Värähtelijä; an album which continues in this vein, giving the band much more room to diverge and explore the vast regions of hypnotic progressive psychedelia and the nebulous outer limits of Scandinavian black metal. Songs explode with radiant ultraviolet color and plunge into the deep black darkness of innermost consciousness. If Valonielu was the creation of a universe, Värähtelijä is the magnification and expansion of its infinite boundaries.

Both albums showed the boundless enormity and remarkable uniqueness that ORANSSI PAZUZU alone create. No other band can bend these genres into such an extraordinarily cohesive whole. The band has also since issued a special two-song EP titled Kevät/Värimyrsky, and reissued their first three albums — Kosmonument, Farmakologinen, and Muukalainen Puhuu – while the next chapter continues to be created.

Insect Ark

Evoking visions of dripping and lurching horror films, outer space travel, and gritty noir textures, NYC-based instrumental band Insect Ark is led by founder Dana Schechter (bass, lap steel guitar, synthesizers). Using delay-drenched lapsteel, distorted bass & synths, and acoustic and electronic drums, Insect Ark’s music creates a sonic mural both uncomfortably intimate and icy cold.

A busy 2018 included the release of full-length LP Marrow Hymns on Profound Lore Records, European and North American tours, a recording residency at modular synth mecca EMS Stockholm, and fest appearances at Roadburn, Basilica Soundscape, Northwest Terror fest and more. Now in Summer 2019, the composing of a new album is almost complete with heavy touring in Fall 2019/Spring 2020 for the US and EU scheduled.

Bridging the gap between experimentation and song form, a heavy focus is on composition, but Insect Ark is not content to stay in the studio. It is very much a live experience, with emphasis on the live instrumentation of bass, lap steel, drums and synths, using intricate live analog looping techniques to achieve a monster “wall of sound” with only one or two people on stage.

A mind-bending animated video piece accompanies live shows – also made by Schechter, who works as a video artist in the film business – completing the experience to envelop and crush the senses.

Ocrilim

Ocrilim is Mick Barr, the NYC based experimental metal guitarist and composer who straddles the worlds of metal, free improvisation, and contemporary classical, with his intricate, and angular playing style. Barr builds jarring yet trance like forms out of his architectural shredding. Piercing notes vibrate with intensity, as Mick’s hands merge with the guitar. An uncanny attention to detail both challenges & enthralls as brutality becomes beauty. Know for his work with American black metal band Krallice, as well as an extensive collaborative and solo practice that has seen the release of over 100 recordings, Barr is an integral piece of the contemporary avant-garde scene.
