NYC Winter Jazzfest

Celebrating 20 years NYC Winter Jazzfest is proud to continue highlighting artists deserving greater attention while nurturing an audience for Black American Music, and amplifying artists’ messages of justice, wellness and progressive change on and off stage. The 2024 artist in resident Shabaka will perform in five different ensembles with guests including esperanza spalding, Gary Bartz, Joe Lovano, Nicole Mitchell, Jason Moran, Saul Williams, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Brandee Younger (and others), and will discuss the universality of jazz with South African pianist Nduduzo Makhathini and esperanza spalding. Other Festival highlights include the signature two-day multi-venue marathon in each Manhattan and Brooklyn, celebrating the music of Max Roach, Alice Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan, Sun Ra, plus nightly shows at Nublu, and much more. An added explicit goal of this coming season is to continue to counter the divisiveness that surrounds us all too often and bring people together with the healing and inspiration power of this music.
