Mezerg

Multi talented instrumentalist Mezerg is a pioneer of modern music technology and one of the most creative musicians you’re likely to come across. Hands and feet linked to his instrument, he makes electronic music from unexpected elements, with rhythms that range from funk to acid techno, improvising with keyboards, effects pedals and the theremin which has become emblematic of his project. Mezerg merges the electronic with the acoustic to create an impressive and unique live performance that you can’t take your eyes off. Somewhere between house music and an acoustic performance, this nightlife one-man band pays homage to both the jazz bars and the nightclubs of this world with a whirlwind of energy and irresistible sounds.

BIRRD

Author of electronic music that can be danced to in the darkness of a club or listened to on a sunny beach, Birrd offers music with cosmic harmonies, where everyday life sounds are twisted, deconstructed, and reassembled around wide and powerful synthesizers to create a deeply melodic, personal version of machine music.

Curiosity is something that is passed on—a legacy, a process too: to always discover new forms of expression, new desires. Sometimes, this curiosity drives one to do crazy things, leaps into the void, trips into space. Like Stefan Vogel, aka Birrd, 32, who, during a lockdown that changed the lives of many, seized the opportunity to focus on his passion: melodic electronic music that is both soaring, dreamy, and danceable, evoking vast landscapes where the wind sometimes sweeps through a Corsican cove, sometimes between New York skyscrapers. These are just some of the places and vast spaces that the Franco-Italo-American has absorbed.

Following his debut EP Alba, released in 2022, which captivated audiences, notably with the track Void Loop, Birrd made his stage debut at the Transmusicales de Rennes. This musical project launched to notable acclaim, attracting the attention of institutions like the Louvre, which invited him to compose pieces inspired by six masterpieces from the museum and then create a performance once a month in the form of a guided tour. This year-long collaboration with the Louvre led to the release of the EP Nocturne Insolite au Louvre in June 2023. Since then, Stefan has been performing solo dates and has already announced his tour, including some live performances alongside artists like NTO, Fakear, Mezerg, and French 79. For his third EP, set to release in early 2024, water and oceans will serve as the inspiration for his compositions.

Birrd has traveling in his blood, along with the desire to embrace everything that comes with it. But the bird (Vogel in German) wasn’t necessarily destined for this emotive yet energetic techno. As a child, he learned the piano. As a teenager, it was the blues that carried him, first with the guitar, then with keyboards.

It was later that Stefan ventured into DAW (Digital Audio Workstation); like a child let loose in a toy store. He explored everything, wanted to understand it all, and realized the difficulty of composing with machines—of making something simple and beautiful.

He initially thought electronic music had to be brutal to exist, that it needed hard-hitting beats to get people jumping in the pit. But year after year, the journey continued. With Pink Floyd, which he always loved for their guitars, he now focused on the atmosphere behind the solos: the layers, the textures. He absorbed the influence of NTO, Worakls, Weval, the synths of Rodriguez Jr, and the dark melancholy of Stephan Bodzin.

From this dive into the electro rabbit hole, Birrd was born. A paradoxical producer, a traveler yet rooted in his hometown of Rouen. In his studio, he invents his own sounds when he’s not recording the sounds of nature, cities, bikes, pebbles, later twisting the samples until they become almost unrecognizable, blending them with cosmic synthesizers and abstract textures to create a multilayered music that reveals itself progressively with each new listen. Learning, discovering, and transmitting, always. And through loops and harmonies, well-placed techno beats, and eloquent melodies, Birrd manages to convey his world to us.
