Dance With The Dead

Magic Sword

Magic Sword is a fantasy synthwave trio whose members, true identities unknown, don black cloaks and neon masks. Producing retro-futuristic electronic music with arpeggio-heavy dance beats and wailing guitar and keyboard solos, the band’s recordings, such as 2020’s Endless, detail the saga of the Keeper of the Magic Sword on his quest against the evil forces of the Dark One. The Boise-based group formed in 2013, initially consisting of the Keeper of the Magic Sword (keyboards) and the Seer of All Truths (guitar), and were later joined by a drummer known as the Weaver of All Hearts and Souls. Their first album, Volume 1, was self-released in 2013, and quickly sold out of its first pressing, as the duo began creating a buzz in the synthwave world with their theatrical performances. Tender Loving Empire reissued the record on vinyl, packaged with a comic book by illustrator Shay Plummer. Two of the album’s tracks were included on the soundtrack to shooter game Hotline Miami 2, furthering the group’s fan base, and they toured with synthwave acts like Carpenter Brut and Dance with the Dead. Additionally, they opened for the Orb in Portland, Oregon, in 2016, and performed with members of the Boise Philharmonic at the city’s Treefort Music Fest the following year. Volume 2 of the Magic Sword saga was presented in three chapters. The first, Legend EP, appeared in 2016, issued by Swedish label Size Records. Mini-album Awakening, the second chapter, was released by Joyful Noise in 2019. The same label issued the third and final chapter, the full-length Endless, in 2020. As with the first volume, all releases were packaged with comic books.

Das Mörtal

Released October 30th 2020, Miami Beach Witches is Das Mörtal’s new vision, where the neon lights, beaches and uplifting beats of classic acts such as Miami Sound Machine meet the sensibilities of the goth/emo music of Depeche Mode. Das Mörtal began his career in Berlin, inspired by artists such as Steve Moore and Aphex Twin. The producer creates an obscure and nostalgic sound, mixing influences from German techno to horror and science fiction film soundtracks. 2014 was an exciting year for Das Mörtal. In addition to composing the music for the film Naissance d’un Zombie, he launched Hotline Miami II on Lisbon Lux Records. That year he also participated in Osheaga (CA), the MEG Festival (CA) and the FME (CA), Les Transmusicales (FR) all while taking part in two European tours supporting Perturbator. On June 9, 2017, Das Mörtal released his first album, Always Loved, which is rapidly selling on vinyl in more than 20 countries. The album is a contemporary romance with lots of intensity that is underscored by a panoply of synthesizers crisscrossing the paths of synthwave, new wave and techno. With performances that include duets with Canadians Ghost Twin and French Fox, the album received international acclaim that allowed Das Mörtal to headline his first US tour. In April 2019, he released a deluxe edition of his EP Hotline Miami II, which now has more than 8 million plays on streaming platforms.
