The Crazy World of Arthur Brown Announces First US Tour in 47 Years!

After a highlight performance at Psycho Las Vegas 2016, hugely influential UK heavy psychedelic progressive oddities The Crazy World of Arthur Brown announce their 2017 “ZIM ZAM ZIM” tour – their first run of US shows since 1969.

The God of Hellfire himself, Arthur Brown, will be celebrating 50 years since releasing the debut single “Devil’s Grip,” which helped shape the British and worldwide psychedelic movement. Pushing theatrics to their dystopian hellscape limits would earn Brown acolytes in everyone from David Bowie and Alice Cooper to KISS, Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga to the entire genre of black metal, and his influence continues to spread today.

“Last time I toured US with the Crazy World was early 1969,” Brown confirms. “It was our third tour there. At the time, the band had been headlining massive festivals, alongside Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Jefferson Airplane, and other top attractions of the time. Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper were still only mildly famous, somewhere down the bill.”

ZIM ZAM ZIM takes its name from The Crazy World of Arthur Brown’s latest album, released in 2014. They’ll be joined on this landmark trip by Ohio rockers Electric Citizen, and shows will feature generational sonic offspring like White Hills, Acid King, Pallbearer, Danava and Jex Thoth.

Arthur Brown is an English rock singer and songwriter best known for his flamboyant theatrical performances, and his powerful, wide-ranging operatic voice. He has been a significant influence on a wide range of musicians due to his operatic vocal style, wild stage persona and concepts, and is considered a pioneer of shock rock and progressive rock and influential on heavy metal music.

Brown has been lead singer of various groups, most notably the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Kingdom Come, followed by a varied solo career as well as associations with Hawkwind, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Klaus Schulze and Frank Zappa. He is best known for his 1968 single “Fire”, reaching number one in the UK Singles Chart and Canada, and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Following the success of the single “Fire”, the press would often refer to Brown as “The God of Hellfire”, in reference to the opening shouted line of the song, a moniker that exists to this day

After bursting to the American heavy rock forefront with their 2014 debut album, Sateen, Cincinnati four-piece Electric Citizen are ready for a Higher Time. Their second album for RidingEasy, it is a breakout moment for the band as a whole and for vocalist Laura Dolan, who stands tall in the spotlight throughout “Evil,” “Misery Keeper” and the rest of Higher Time, rising to the occasion of a fuller, bigger sound and meeting the memorable riffing of husband/guitarist Ross Dolan head on with already-stuck-in-your-head hooks and a fiery, passionate delivery.

Like its predecessor, Higher Time was recorded at The Diamonds studio in Cincinnati by Brian Olive (The Greenhornes, Dan Auerbach, Dr. John, etc.), and in search of an even more expansive feel, Laura, Ross and Brian traveled mix alongside Black Keys engineer Collin Dupuis at Easy Eye in Nashville, TN. The results speak for themselves. In Laura’s performance and in the multi-faceted approach of Ross alongside bassist Randy Proctor and drummer Nate Wagner, Electric Citizen branch out with stage-born assurance across a collection of definitive rock ‘n’ roll. It is a bold, complete sound that sacrifices nothing of the band’s on-stage energy and clearly demonstrates that while their progression has been quick, it’s been hard won the traditional way: They worked their collective ass off.

“We chose producer Brian Olive because he’s an excellent musician with a great ear for rock ‘n’ roll, and a good friend that we trust,” notes Laura. The dividends of that trust can be heard in “Ghost of Me,” the rolling “Natural Law” or “Devils in the Passing Time,” as Electric Citizen brazenly refuse to be pigeonholed and craft a style that, like every stage they step onto, is completely their own.

Electric Citizen spread their name far and wide on tours with Fu Manchu, Wolfmother, Budos Band and Pentagram for Sateen. Look for them to support Higher Time on the road in North America and Europe throughout 2016 and beyond.
