NOW Ensemble is a dynamic new music group dedicated to commissioning and presenting works by emerging composers. With its unique instrumentation of flute, clarinet, electric guitar, double bass, and piano, NOW Ensemble brings a new sound to chamber music, and a new artistic vitality for the next generation of musicians, composers, and listeners. Based in New York City, NOW Ensemble has performed at a variety of concert halls, art galleries, and clubs around the city, including Merkin Concert Hall, BAM Café, the Knitting Factory, the Tenri Cultural Institute, Galapagos Art Space, the Juilliard School, VIM: TriBeCa, Williamsburg’s DuBuQuE Concert Series, and the Look & Listen Festival in Chelsea’s Robert Miller Gallery, and the Bang on a Can Marathon at the World Financial Center. Their self-titled debut album is available now through New Amsterdam Records.

Julia Wolfe‘s music is muscular and kinetic and experienced through the body. She creates journeys like unfolding dramatic landscapes, a music meant to be entered into by the listener. Wolfe’s work is distinguished by this intense focus on sound, the power of sound, the ways in which sound is related to memory and experience, the possibilities for new harmonies between familiar chords and micro tonal tunings or sounds found in nature and the urban world. With a care and attention to detail that is both masterful and highly respectful, Wolfe’s music celebrates the extraordinary qualities contained within something as specific as a gesture or an inflection.

Vancouver-born, Brooklyn-based composer Darcy James Argue is the ringleader and mastermind behind Secret Society, an 18-piece band devoted to his cunning original music. Secret Society unveiled themselves to the unwary public in May 2005 and have been recruiting allies to their cause ever since.
