Stephane Wrembel’s Django New Orleans

Django New Orleans celebrates the iconic guitarist and composer Django Reinhardt by blending the traditional sounds of New Orleans brass and percussion with the enchanting “Jazz Manouche” guitar style. From swing to second lines, this ensemble offers a truly magical night of music.

Led by acclaimed jazz guitarist Stéphane Wrembel, known for his original compositions “Bistro Fada” (featured in Midnight in Paris) and “Big Brother” (from Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Django New Orleans is a 9-piece supergroup featuring some of NYC’s finest jazz and world music talents. The lineup includes: Josh Kaye on rhythm guitar, Joe Boga on trumpet, Adrien Chevalier on violin, Joe Correia on sousaphone, David Langlois on percussion and washboard, Nick Driscoll on clarinet and soprano saxophone, Scott Kettner on drums, and Sarah King on vocals.

Sarah King will perform selections from her August 2024 release, The Masquerade Is Over, accompanied by the group.

Django New Orleans made their debut in November 2021 with a series of 8 sold-out shows at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, followed by a performance at the renowned Town Hall in early May 2023. Their self-titled recording was released in May 2023 on vinyl, CD, and all streaming platforms via Water Is Life Records.

Jason Olaine, V.P. of Programming for Jazz at Lincoln Center, notes, “Django New Orleans offers a unique blend of down-home party vibes and high-end listening experiences. Stéphane Wrembel seamlessly fuses Reinhardt’s music with classic New Orleans repertoire, adding just the right touch of understated flair and acoustic funk. With the second-line spirit of Congo Square—featuring tuba, acoustic bass, horns, washboard/percussion, and bass drum—enhanced by Stéphane’s tasteful yet pyrotechnic guitar work, Django New Orleans truly represents the best of both worlds.”
