Pop & Obachan
Pop & Obachan Facebook Page | Pop & Obachan Official Website
Pop & Obachan are playing bocce in the park together right now. Pop & Obachan watch national geographic specials after dinner. Pop & Obachan drink water before bed. Pop & Obachan [oh-BAH-chon] met in World War II and couldn’t speak the same language. They fell in love immediately. Fast forward a few decades to Emma Tringali & Jake Smisloff, building a creative home using the Pop & Obachan namesake. The two embody the P&O name to create music, illustrations, photographs, silkscreening, in a safe and endlessly imaginative arena. Emma (vocals, organ) & Jake (guitar) write and record the music and are joined on stage by Evan Daves (drums), Del Montgomery (bass), Cian McCarthy (guitar), and Matia Emsellem (vocals) to create a six piece reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, Broadcast, Harry Nilsson, and Camera Obscura. With subtle folk undertones and a tinge of psychedelic pop, Pop & Obachan will “sweep you away with their perfect balance of fluttering guitars and atmospheric synths.” – Baebel Music

Frank McGinnis & The Whim
Frank McGinnis & The Whim | Frank McGinnis & The Whim
Frank McGinnis & The Whim paints a landscape of pastoral guitar pop as equally existential as it is bright with hooks. Frank McGinnis portrays his vocal prowess within his upcoming EP, Be Content With Your Light, Child, weaving focused guitar tone and indie dynamicism. Working with producer Jeremy Backofen (The Felice Brothers, Frightened Rabbit, PAWS, Mice Parade), “Frank McGinnis is dexterous in his able handling of the anti-solo-riff guitars and the vocally dense and emotive verse,” says Chronogram. Either solo or supported, McGinnis brings the energy of the record alive on stage.
Brimming with discovery and rooted in the music scene of the Hudson Valley, Frank McGinnis & The Whim are the culminating sustain of a local scene’s passing and rebirth. Called “timeless” by Roll Magazine, the resulting compositions are a sonic balance of wisdom and haunting iconic melody.
