DJ Jamesey DJ Jamesey

DJ Jamesey, a relative ‘new kid on the block’ compared to some of London’s more established DJ’s, this junior’s skills on the decks and musical prowess is far from the above. A maturity that appears as if he’s been playing professionally for the best part of two decades is not a bad accolade.

Professionally playing deep and soulful house for more than ten years, Jamesey got on the decks at the age of 14. Music and DJ’s run in the family citing his first musical influences from his mother and uncles who were all DJ’s on the radio in the early eighties. He says it’s always a great vibe listening to his mother in the mornings playing everything from Soul to rare groove and Jazz classics.

Real success didn’t take long to beckon, getting his break on Housefm.net in 2004. As a resident at the Ditch bar (Shoreditch) with Euphoric House Collective (Randy J & Floyd Patterson), opportunity knocked as Jamesey’s talents saw him showcasing at most of the prolific nights in the underground house scene in London. Bookings saw him play at BBE Records’ parties, Soulogic and Kinki Malinki. Making a name for himself took him worldwide performing sets in Sardinia, Barcelona, New York, Paris , Russia, Georgia and Dubai.

Whilst holding a residency at Offthemeters.com, a meeting with Matt Langrish-Smith in 2008, then working for Papa Records on their home turf of Stoke Newington lead to debates on the soulful house scene, a meeting of minds and music was the start of a flourishing collaboration.

Premiering with a one-off night in February 2009 (Islington), the duo put a night on at the Salmon & Compass called Messages with guest DJ from New Jersey Jihad Muhammad (Movement Soul) with rave reviews. Matt went on to open Tribe Records label with Zepherin Saint and Jamesey pursued his career independently playing sets with DJ’s such as Uchikawa (Loftsoul), Karizma, Atjazz, Kyri R2 and Frankie Valentine. Later joining Tribe as a resident the pair have come full circle on their ideas with the birth of Makin Moves events and label.

His DJ résumé reads like a who’s who of the deep house movement, playing alongside Neil Pierce & Aaron Ross (The Fanatix), Pete Adarkwah (BBE Records), DJ Spen (Code Red), Mark Grant (Blackstone Recs), Marcia Carr (Playback) and Rap Saunders (Soulmates). Ian Friday (Tea Party Music), Greg Gauthier (Dance Culture), Andy Ward & Timmy Vegas (Soul Central) to name a few.

Forever inspired and with a well-honed ear, Jamesey’s sound is forever evolving and keeps crowds entertained. Jamesey knows what he likes and the crowd like it too – his future looks promising. You can still catch him playing across London as he returned to Housefm.net last month, submitting mixes and remaining involved in the London’s underground soulful scene.
