KJ Denhert & the New York Unit KJ Denhert & the New York Unit

“With frequent forays into the realms of jazz, funk and R&B, Denhert challenges the singer/songwriter barricade head on, budding a new genre she calls “urban folk and jazz.”-Westchester Weekly. KJ’s been featured in the New York Times, opened concerts for the likes of Roberta Flack and Alicia Keys and, as lead guitarist in an all-female rock quartet, once toured the world (in spandex). She now leads a virtuoso funk/jazz band at the 55 Bar every other Saturday and plays to packed houses there since 1997. Her wit and musicality are legendary; both really shine in her solo acoustic performances and when she is accompanied by her amazing band as she will be for her happy return to LPR.

Going strong since her 1999 debut “Looking Forward to Looking Back,” the well-traveled Denhert (everywhere from Egypt to Italy) is touring in support of her tenth album, “Destiny.” The album is nominated for three Independent Music Awards, of which she’s won in previous years, and won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2012.

“I write and record songs about what I know…I want my music to express a musical and lyrical balance between finding inspiration, seeking justice and fending off despair”. -KJ Denhert
