For fans of electronic, experimental, and all-around unorthodox music, the annual Unsound Festival New York is an embarrassment of riches. This year—LPR’s third consecutive season of presenting Unsound events—we are privileged to host two nights of the festival. On Thursday, April 19, the UK electronic/techno producer Actress makes his US live debut at LPR in a late-night Unsound session, following sets from Hype Williams and Next Life. On Friday, April 20, we present the first US live performance of Inner Tube (featuring Mark McGuire of Emeralds and Spencer Clark of The Skaters), followed by German minimal techno legend POLE and what promises to be an unforgettable audio/visual live set by the Sun Araw Band, an undefinable Los Angeles psychedelic outfit. If past installments of Unsound are any indication, these shows (and the rest of the festival events happening around town) will go a long way toward illuminating the new directions that music is moving forward in today.
