On March 19th, 2015, the world lost the genius behind the hit single “Walk Away Renee” and the eerie haunting number, “Pretty Ballerina”. This genius is none other than Michael Brown. Born Michael David Lookofsky (April 25, 1949) , the virtuoso was blessed with the gift of music at an early age. By the time he was 15, Brown had already written “Walk Away Renee” and “Pretty Ballerina”, two songs that still hold up today. Browns work with The Left Banke is a constant source of praise from folks of the likes of Andrew Loog Oldham, George Harrison, Donovan, Oasis, Belle & Sebastien, Anton Newcombe, Jacco Gardner, Regina Spektor, the list goes on… After The Left Banke disbanded in the late 60’s, Brown went on to write, perform and produce for Montage and The Beckies. By the 1970’s, Brown made his way into Stories. With Ian Lloyd singing lead vocals, the two collaborated on the first two studio albums recorded by the group, creating beautiful music together. Michael Brown is survived by his wife Yvonne and their two sons, Skylar and Adrian.
The evening will include performances by The Left Banke, featuring founding and original member George Cameron, as well as Ian Lloyd’s Stories. Both of the bands will perform songs penned by Michael Brown. There will be many more special guest announced in the weeks to come.
*A portion of proceeds from the show will go to Michael Browns family to aid in covering the funeral expenses they have acquired during this difficult time.
