Kevin Barnes (of Montreal)

Kevin Lawrence Barnes (born May 30, 1974) is the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter for the indie rock group of Montreal, part of the Elephant 6 Collective. Barnes started the band on their own and, although providing several stories as to the origin of the name, is said to have named it after a failed romance with a woman from Montreal. The group has recorded fifteen full-length albums, and numerous EPs and 7″ singles. Their brother, David Barnes, is an artist and has designed most of the band’s artwork for albums since the release of The Gay Parade.
Starla Online

Starla Online’s soft surrealist pop music is written by Lindsay Dobbs and constructed from melodies, lyrics, and chord sequences that arrived between dreaming and waking. The current live band is comprised of Lindsay Dobbs on synth, vocals, and trombone, Andrea Schiavelli on bass, Leia Slosberg on flute, and Zeb Stern on drums. Soft vocals sit on a bed of pitch-fat synths while saturated flutes drift between bass lines. All is grounded by the faintness of the drums. The music is inspired by NYC’s DIY scene, the baroque classical era, disorientation, irresolution, anti-groove, and Brian Eno. Starla Online lives in Queens, New York and started writing songs 4 years ago.
