Grand Band performs Simeon ten Holt’s ‘Canto Ostinato’

On January 15th the Grand Band, the piano / keyboard sextet comprised of pianists Vicky Chow, David Friend, Paul Kerekes, Blair McMillen, Lisa Moore, and Isabelle O’Connell, performed Simeon ten Holt’s “Canto Ostinato” at LPR. Their tribute to the composer, who passed away at age 89 on November 25th, is available to stream in its entirety courtesy of Q2.
The piece, composed in 1976, is ten Holt’s most well-known work. It’s a work of beautiful minimalism, typical of much of his work, composed in cells of measures that can be repeated at the players discretion. Performances can last an hour or a day. This performance lasts just over an hour.
