The Sketchy Orkestra featuring Emily Braden

About The Sketchy Orkestra

Since 2009, the critically acclaimed jazz composer and pianist, Mr. Piatigorsky is exploring a broader acoustic theme, performing with a string section. The evolution of his writing for a premier stage act has evolved under many different names, culminating as The Sketchy Orkestra — a large ensemble, embracing the contrast of jazz piano trio and chamber string section. Making use of broad range of genres, Misha seamlessly blends jazz, soul, rock, hip-hop and vocals, creating an unforgettable live concert experience for the audience.

With 13 people on stage, led by the acclaimed jazz pianist Misha Piatigorsky and his trio, The Sketchy Orkestra ranges from classical to pop in the lifetime of a single song. It features fiery soul vocals of Emily Braden alongside the eight-piece chamber string section, while Rahj Mason brings a hip-hop beat to the jazz scene. The Sketchy Orkestra returns to LPR, an “epicenter for adventurous music,” on May 21st at 8 pm with singer-songwriter Kennedy as a special guest.

About Emily Braden

Big, bad beauty Emily Braden covers a lot of ground. Whether she’s singing with a symphony or fronting a world-class trio, Braden has the innate ability to win the heart of any audience with her powerhouse vocals and striking stage presence.

Winner of New York City’s prestigious “Best of the Best” Jazzmobile Vocal Competition, Braden’s signature sound is an effortless blend of jazz and soul. Her knock-out debut album Soul Walk is composed of high-energy originals and “flipped-out” jazz standards. Producer Misha Piatigorsky says, “As a singer, Emily has no boundaries. She gives me goose bumps.” Soul Walk caught the attention of dancer Hillary Marie Michael and has since been turned into a collaborative revue featuring Braden with her trio and a team of tap dancers.

Braden has performed at notable NYC venues such as the Blue Note Jazz Club (Late Night Groove Series), Birdland Jazz Club, (le) poisson rouge, BAMCafe and Minton’s Playhouse as well as on international festival circuits. In April 2014, Braden was selected by the US Embassy to travel to Burkina Faso, West Africa as part of the Arts Envoy program. The Emily Braden Quartet closed out the Jazz a Ouaga Festival with a standing ovation. She is a featured vocalist with a number of groups including The Sketchy Orkestra, the Matt Parker Trio and Oliver Swain’s Big Machine. Her group Double Bass, Double Voice released their debut album in February 2017.

See Braden live and she’ll make you a believer. This girl is smokin’, smokin’ hot.
