The Book Report Reading

Once upon a time you were in third grade and you had to give book reports and it was awesome. The Book Report promises to deliver exactly what it promises: reports on books by the people who’ve read them. Join Leigh Stein and Sasha Fletcher and assorted literate guests for an evening that will remind you of 3rd grade in the best possible way.

Chelsea Hodson

Chelsea Hodson, a 2012 PEN Center USA Emerging Voices Fellow, has worked as a reporter, a copy editor, a fourth grade teacher, and a Space Grant Intern for NASA’s Phoenix Mars Mission. Her chapbook, Beach Camp, was published in 2010 and her new work is in the forthcoming issue of Black Warrior Review. She lives in Brooklyn and is currently writing a personal essay collection.

Micaela Blei

Micaela Blei is a teacher, writer, storyteller and doctoral student. She is a Moth GrandSLAM Champion and has told stories onstage in approximately 5 other states besides New York. Micaela was a 3rd grade teacher for a long time and misses it. When it’s above 50 degrees, she can be found on her bicycle all over New York City. You can visit her site at http://www.micaelablei.com/.

Maris Kreizman

Maris Kreizman is the creator of Slaughterhouse 90210, a blog that combines her love of literature with her appreciation for crappy television. She’s worked in book publishing for 12 years.

Miracle Jones

Miracle Jones is from Texas. He is a Sagittarius. He is a very private person. You can read more of his work at miraclejones.com.

Krystal Languell

Krystal Languell is a member of the Belladonna* Collaborative and edits the journal Bone Bouquet. Her work has appeared in esque, La Fovea, DIAGRAM and elsewhere, and her first book, Call the Catastrophists, was published by BlazeVox in 2011. She is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt Institute and a 2013 Emerge Surface Be fellow at The Poetry Project.

Jennifer L. Knox

Jennifer L. Knox’s new book of poems, The Mystery of the Hidden Driveway, is available from Bloof Books. Her other books, Drunk by Noon and A Gringo Like Me, are also available through Bloof. Her work has also appeared in numerous publications such as The New Yorker, American Poetry Review and Ploughshares.

hosts Leigh Stein

Leigh Stein is the author of four chapbooks of poetry and one novel, The Fallback Plan, newly released from Melville House. You can listen to an excerpt of The Fallback Plan here.

Sasha Fletcher

Sasha Fletcher is the author of the novella WHEN ALL OUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED MARCHING BANDS WILL FILL THE STREETS AND WE WILL NOT HEAR THEM BECAUSE WE WILL BE UPSTAIRS IN THE CLOUDS [ml press 2010] and a couple of poetry chapbooks.
