A new Philip Glass piece is about to get a US release on CD followed by a number of US performances led by violinist Robert McDuffie. The piece is Glass’ violin concerto no.2 “American Four Seasons,” a sort of reimagining of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” for a new era. It’s full of strangeness and a sort of amorphous shape due to the fact that Glass and his cohorts couldn’t decide on which of the four sections was Summer and which was Winter. This ultimately led them to not name any of the sections and allow the audience to determine what each section inspired in their own listening. Below is a trailer for the recording which will be followed by a US tour kicking off in New York at Le Poisson Rouge.
