Pop Punk High is where teens live and breathe pop punk, it’s always 2003 and skateboards and eyeliner are the must-have accessories – and where Derek’s life majorly sucks. His lame parents don’t understand him, he’s the biggest loser in school, and the girl of his dreams doesn’t know he’s alive. Things take a turn when Derek discovers a can of Axe Body Spray that contains the ghost-slash-genie of pop punk princess Avril Lavigne. Avril agrees to grant him 3 wishes, but only if he will find out who murdered and trapped her. But in selecting his wishes, Derek soon finds out that what you think makes you pop punk, often isn’t pop punk at all.
Pop Punk High is a new musical experience that celebrates and parodies all things early 2000’s, and the ethos and aesthetic that defined a generation. Pop Punk High is “as amazing as it sounds” (the FADER), and “really really good” (Billboard). But it’s not just an original musical comedy – your night at Pop Punk High includes an opening set from QWAM, an outrageous pop punk musical comedy, live band pop punk karaoke, and even a costume contest — all are highly encouraged to come dressed up in your best 2003 apparel, and prizes will be given out to the most pop punk!

Ben Lapidus (Music & Lyrics): Ben Lapidus is a songwriter, performer, and sound engineer based in NYC. He stars in and wrote the music/lyrics for Pop Punk High. He is the lead singer/songwriter for the the alternative band Ambler, and the skate-punk band Kill Your Friends. His company Lapidus Audio creates original music and sound for film and stage. Ben holds a BFA in Recorded Music from the The Clive Davis Institute at NYU Tisch.
Anderson Cook (Book & Producer):Anderson Cook (Book & Producer): Anderson Cook is a playwright, librettist, lyricist, and screenwriter. His musicals have been seen at The Boston Conservatory, the PIT, and the Parkside Lounge. His plays have been seen at the Lee Strasburg Theatre & Film Institute, Dixon Place, the Secret Theatre, and more. His work has been praised on Theatre is Easy, the FADER, Alternative Press, and Billboard. He is the recipient of a 2018 Sloan Screenwriting Grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Anderson and his writing partner Amanda D’Archangelis were the winners of the 2017 NMI New Voices Contest, co-sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering. He holds a BFA in dramatic writing from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and an MFA in dramatic writing from Carnegie Mellon University, and is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop.
Felicia Lobo (Director): Felicia Lobo is a Brooklyn based director who specializes in horror and fantastical theatre. Recent projects include High School Coven (Corkscrew Festival), Suburban Nightmare (workshop with Insomnium Theatre Company), Wunderkammer (reading with Pipeline Theatre Company), BB’s Inferno (PIT Striker), and Rubiella: A Ghost Story (Pipeline Theatre Company).
