LPR Recommends: Jack Name’s “Light Show”

Feb

07

Los Angeles has been a fertile ground for weirdo psych punk over the past few years with the likes of Ty Segall, White Fence, the Burger Records crew, and more calling the area home, however scene veteran Jack Name (aka Fictional Boys, Muzz) has taken this sound above and beyond on his new release Light Show. The album is a mix of low and hi fi with multiple vocalists and moods throughout, but overall it’s a wonderful ode to how strange and otherworldly a pop song can be. The centerpiece of the album is almost undoubtedly “Pure Terror,” which recalls a less world-worn Spiritualized on more upbeat drugs. Check it out below, and consider getting the whole damn (beautifully designed, might I add) thing courtesy of Drag City imprint God? records.
