Okay, I’ll be honest. I post all these interviews with the fanschmabulous writers we’ve had tell stories at the Soundtrack Series, and I have to admit I’m a little jealous. As I read each answer, I think, oooh, I know what I’d say here, or, oh yeah, I’d say that too, but I’d also include the whole Captain and Tennille aspect. So without further ado, I’m going to give these questions a shot. Here goes nothing–an interview with myself, Dana Rossi.

1) We like hearing stories from writers, performers and musicians at the Soundtrack Series, so which are you? Which would you like to be?

I am a writer who used to be a performer. I have a degree in theater. Okay, musical theater. And I liked it just fine…but I didn’t love it. And I always felt I should be totally in love with acting to pursue it as a career. And I wasn’t. But I was in love with writing, and was always a storyteller, so here I am.

2) What song or band would it shock your friends to learn that you love?

I am very open about my love of all songs corny—like late seventies slow jams, early nineties one hit wonders and such. So not that…but let’s have a look through the ol’ iPod and see. Wow, three Lady Gaga songs. I bet that would be shocking considering how I go on and on about how she is nothing we haven’t seen before. OH! And how’s this…I will always have a soft spot for that early millennial buzz heavy faux emo stuff—Fuel, Incubus, Puddle of Mudd, Papa Roach—bands like that. I was in Philly at the time, and will just always associate those bands with that time, which makes me feel all toasty in my tummy. Oh, but not Staind. They sucked.

3) You can tell a lot about a person’s “Soundtrack” from where it all began. So, what is the first tape/45/single you owned? Do you still have it?

The first 45 I owned was “Shame on the Moon”, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. You bet I still have it. The first album was Thriller (I don’t think anyone my age doesn’t list this album as their first). And while I have the jacket (and the poster of him with the tiger), the record is sadly and mysteriously MIA. The first tape…hm. I was doing the record thing for a long time, so my first tape was probably the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, both volumes. And I listened to that enough to recognize that Merry Clayton, the woman who sang the song “Yes” on that soundtrack later sang backup on Tori Amos’ “Cornflake Girl”. And the man with the golden gun, thinks he knows so much…
