Yum’s the Word 3-Year Anniversary Show

“Yum’s The Word” is a new show that blends old-fashioned birthday parties with modern- day storytelling. Each month comedian and storyteller, Robin Gelfenbien, throws a party for an audience member replete with Mad Libs, balloon animals and homemade ice cream cakes. Join Robin and some of New York City’s best storytellers for a sweet and decadent night of juicy stories and treats.

Ophira Eisenberg is a standup comic and host of NPR’s nationally syndicated comedy, trivia show Ask Me Another where she interviews and plays silly games with Sir Patrick Stewart, Taye Diggs, Awkwafina, Roxane Gay, Terry Crews, Jessica Walter, Josh Groban, Nick Kroll, Tony Hawk, George Takei, Sasha Velour, Ethan Hawke, Julia Stiles, Lewis Black, Uzo Aduba, Michael C. Hall and more. She also is a regular host and teller with The Moth and her stories have been featured on The Moth Radio Hour and in their best-selling books, including the most recent: Occasional Magic: True Stories About Defying the Impossible. Ophira’s own comedic memoir, Screw Everyone: Sleeping My Way to Monogamy was optioned for a feature film. She has appeared on Comedy Central, This Week At The Comedy Cellar, The New Yorker Festival, Kevin Hart’s LOL Network, HBO’s Girls, Gotham Live, The Late Late Show, The Today Show, and VH-1. Slash Coleman

NPR calls award-winning writer/performer Slash Coleman, “Extremely provocative and entertaining,” and WGBH Boston says, “Slash has the power to change the way people think.” The author of “The Bohemian Love Diaries” and the 2012 recipient of the United Solo Award for Best Drama, Slash is best known for his PBS special and Off-Broadway one man show, “The Neon Man and Me.” Slash’s work has been featured in The Washington Post, The New York Times, American Theatre Magazine, Backstage Magazine and most recently on the NPR series, “How Artists Make Money.” As a performer, he’s been featured at: TEDx, The International Storytelling Center, Pete Seeger’s Clearwater Festival, and The National Storytelling Festival. He’s currently at work on his 2nd PBS special, which is about the re-birth of storytelling in America.

Martin Dockery

Over the past several years, Martin Dockery has created six monologues and one play, touring them across the US, Canada, Australia, and The UK. He has won Best of Fest in theater festivals in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, Ottawa, Orlando, London, and Adelaide. In 2012, he performed month-long runs of his shows at The Melbourne Comedy Festival, The Adelaide Fringe, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. A good time, all, but he’s happy right now to have some good times back home right here in Brooklyn.

Melanie Hamlett

Melanie Hamlett is an adventurer, comedian, writer, storyteller, and two-time Moth Story Slam winner. When not living out of the back of her truck somewhere around the country, a backpack around South America, or a trailer with no running water out in New Mexico, she lives in NYC, where she performs all over at places like the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in shows including Asssscat 3000, Nights of Our Lives, Stripped Stories, etc. She’s been featured on the Risk! podcast, has written for publications like Marie Claire and Nerve.com, and co-authored the book Leave the Lipstick, Take the Iguana. Robin Gelfenbien is the self-proclaimed Ambassador of Fun and an NYC-based storyteller, writer and comedian. She’s a three-time Moth Story SLAM winner who has performed on PBS, RISK!, Mortified and countless other shows. She’s also shared the stage with Hannah Gadsby, Trevor Noah and more.

Robin is the Creator and Host of the storytelling series and podcast, “Yum’s the Word,” that features her homemade ice cream cakes. The show has been named a New York Times and Time Out New York Critic’s Pick. Guests have included Tim Gunn, Jason Biggs, Joy Behar and stars from “Orange is the New Black.”

New York Magazine called her solo show, “My Salvation Has a First Name: A Wienermobile Journey,” “the highlight of the Fringe” and Time Out New York gave it 4 stars.

She’s performed her original comedy songs at The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and on Sirius Radio. She’s also been featured in Marie Claire magazine and she starred in a commercial directed by Spike Lee.
