VISUALS

VISUALS official site | VISUALS on Facebook | VISUALS on Soundcloud | VISUALS on Twitter | VISUALS on Instagram |

VISUALS is Andrew Fox, a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer from New York City.

Fox began crafting the songs that would become VISUALS in 2012. A long-standing working relationship with Dave Harrington, Nicolas Jaar’s partner in DARKSIDE, led to VISUALS joining Jaar’s Other People crew and releasing an acclaimed self-titled debut EP.

In October 2013, Fox swapped Brooklyn for Berlin and left behind a studio full of gear, finding freedom in the limitation of a laptop.  Working with his voice as a primary instrument led to an intensified focus on melody, and opened moods previously inaccessible.

Whilst the dominance of house and techno in Berlin’s club scene has undoubtedly influenced his music, Fox also consciously counters that, balancing his recent work with some unmistakably American indie traits. He has honed a new sound, combining aspects of traditional songwriting and structure within this electronic context. His gift for memorable hooks and compelling melody remains the focus, with dance floor arrangements and sounds providing endless new possibilities.

Millionyoung

The pseudonym for South Florida’s Mike Diaz, Millionyoung blends bright electronic synths, with layered guitars and vocals, to create lush tropical soundscapes. Drawing from house music rhythms, and 70s funk psychedelia, Diaz’s music feels as welcome on a crowded dance floor, as it does on long road trips. Mike is also multi-talented as an artist, producer, and DJ. He released his first EP in 2009, entitled Sunndreamm, and has since released numerous LPs, EPs, and remixes. The last two years have found Diaz performing his music live at festivals such as III Points, House of Creatives, and FM Festival, as well as select dates across the US. During this time, he has spent countless hours in the studio perfecting his much anticipated 4th full length album, entitled Rare Form, planned for release in Spring of 2017.

Ian Chang

Drummer Ian Chang makes electronic music physical. Using drums to control and manipulate samples, Chang brings human fluidity to a metronomic genre. The result is a seamless marriage of raw performative intensity and sophisticated sound design.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chang was shaped by the city’s diversity and vibrance. He moved to New York in 2007 to pursue music and quickly gained a reputation as a “gigantically talented drummer” (NPR). To date, Chang has recorded and/or performed with such varied artists as Son Lux, Landlady, Joan As Policewoman, Body Language, Matthew Dear, Dave Douglas, Rafiq Bhatia, Rubblebucket and Moses Sumney.

In 2015, Chang started beta testing Sunhouse’s Sensory Percussion. This new technology translates the nuances of drumming into sample-based sound worlds. Through testing and developing Sensory Percussion, he has discovered a new creative voice and is gearing up to release his debut with Kowloon Records in Fall of 2017. The project explores the relationship between human and machine, redefining drumming and electronic music.
