Vasudeva

Vasudeva is an instrumental rock band from New Jersey. Formed out of a lasting high school friendship, the tight-knit trio creates seemingly effortless, beautifully dynamic soundscapes, locked in by a firm backdrop of unrelenting grooves, while drawing on their post-rock, ambient, lo-fi, and electronic forms all in equal measure.

Written from late 2014 to late 2015 after returning home from their first European tour, the band’s second full-length album, No Clearance, is the product of countless hours of listening, observing, tweaking, and evolving, honing in an impressive spread of recording techniques and production styles, while redefining genres in the process.

Self-recorded with an array of colors in their sonic palette, effect pedals, tape players, samplers, drum machines, and a Rhodes piano were just a few of the components used in the making of No Clearance (mastered by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden), capturing Vasudeva at their rawest, yet most refined form to date.

The band’s name, coined from the character in Hermann Hesse’s 1922 novel, Siddhartha, was chosen for his quiet, yet profound and eye-opening role in the story, similar to the band’s own deliberate pace and strong musical dynamic. Now, with the release of No Clearance and a year full of touring ahead, the band certainly has something worth hearing.

Invalids

Relatively fast tempos, thrashy digital/analog drums, occasional grooves and dance beats, blazing bass lines, tapping and fingerwork, linear song structure, heavy time-sig variation, melodic backbone, frenetic vocals, all clean channel, no picks allowed.

Via Luna

Via Luna official site | Via Luna on Bandcamp | Via Luna on Facebook | Via Luna on Twitter | Via Luna on Instagram

Via Luna is an instrumental rock band that started writing songs in the basement of a health clinic office in Kansas City, Missouri near the end of 2013. Since then, the band have released two EP’s, toured across the US, been featured on multiple compilations and playlists including Reddit Official’s r/ListenToThis “Best of 2015” compilation, and have acquired fans from across the globe. The bands latest record, ‘Wilt’, will be released on April 28th.

“The Kansas City band combines shimmering parts to create disjunctive but ever-progressing songs. Part math rock, part shoegaze, part jazz riffing, Via Luna has all the epicness of bands like Explosions in the Sky or Sigur Ros and all the jittering movement of Maps & Atlases or Dirty Projectors. The ability to shift between cool, jazz-inspired meanderings to bright legatos gives the band a few different textures with which they build their songs.” – Brian Clifton, Mills Record Company
