Jonathan Kolby: For the past 15 years, I’ve been deeply involved in reptile and amphibian conservation and in 2007, I began investigating the presence of amphibian diseases in Honduras. Working with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as a Wildlife Inspector and then as a CITES Policy Specialist, I was immersed in monitoring, regulation, and policy management of the international wildlife trade. The absence of wildlife trade biosecurity regulations in the USA became a great concern to me amidst the emergence of global wildlife disease events. Focusing on the global spread of amphibian chytrid fungus, I started my PhD at JCU in 2011 to exploring a series of potential pathogen dispersal pathways and investigate opportunities for biosecurity intervention to mitigate future spread.
