About The Hum Series
The Hum is an all female/gender queer concert series that celebrates, instigates, and nourishes the community of female musicians in New York City and beyond. Since its formation in April 2015, the series has fostered collaborations between 200+ female and female-identifying musicians including Kimbra, Rachael Price, Yuka Honda, Adrienne Lenker, Olga Bell, Kelsey Lu, members of Tune-Yards, The Cranberries, Cat Power and The Julie Ruin. HUM concerts feature only women on stage, and all walks of life in attendance.

Each installment of the series invites a group of female identified/gender queer musicians to form impromptu “dream bands” bands, shedding the usual dynamics of their main projects and exploring new avenues of their creativity. Long-lasting friendships, creative relationships, and even bands have emerged from these collaborations – not to mention magical results on our stage. The music crosses a constellation of genres and influences, all coming together to form a space where women are linked – not ranked – and celebrated for their artistry on its own terms.

Bunny Michael with L.K. Napolitano & Zoie Omega

Bunny Michael official site | Bunny Michael on Facebook | Bunny Michael on Soundcloud | Bunny Michael on Instagram

Born in Texas, Bunny Michael moved to New York City just in time for 9/11. Beginning with a collegiate study in acting and performance, music became the most obvious vehicle for the young artist’s need for expression. They created the rap project Bunny Rabbit, a louder and more beat based response to the DIY anti-folk movement of the early 00s. Dancing the line between profundity and raucous humor, their lyrics began to point toward a new agenda: universal healing, self love, and psychedelic wisdom. These principles began to consolidate into clear messaging, bleeding out into works of visual art, hand painted clothing, and meditative practices. Since the discontinuation of Bunny Rabbit in 2010, and a short lived collaborative project by the name of Twin Gemz, Michael has been working and performing solo. The debut record “Rainbow Licker” 2014, and the recently completed yet to be released follow up, “Afterlyfe”, show a maturation of Michael’s artistic practice and new depths of inspiration and skill. In the past year Bunny has taken to new realms to deliver their gifts with a widely celebrated “meme project” on Instagram, wherein Bunny converses with their “Higher Self” and we are given an opportunity to observe a universal internal conflict that is the struggle to love one’s self. As Paper Magazine dubbed them one of America’s top 10 people “dedicating their lives to change” in 2017, Bunny’s art and Bunny’s activism become increasingly one in the same.

Sateen

Sateen is New York City’s premier queer femme music duo. The couple, consisting of vocalist, Miss Queen Sateen, and instrumentalist/producer, Exquisite, have become a staple of the NYC music scene by performing their danceable brand of pop at some of the city’s most popular clubs, parties and festivals.

In speaking about Sateen’s most recent release, the eponymous Sateen, An0ther Magazine said, “it’s almost impossible not to be lifted by their songs.” OUT heralded the EP as “equally a political war cry and a flashy pop project.” Along with their debut album, Greatest Hits, Sateen have released several music videos: Treat Yaself, She’s Fancy, Karmas Gonna Get Ya and their previous single, Love Makes the World, which Paper called “a perfect antidote to Trump assuming power…in the form of a music video for their equally shimmering track…”
