OUTLAWS
Book by James Presson
Music & Lyrics by Alexander Sage Oyen

Frustrated with Washington and hard-up for cash, Jesse James and his brother Frank take matters into their own hands robbing banks, courting the press, and killing anyone who gets in their way. Featuring a robust bluegrass score, Outlaws is the story of a bitterly divided America and the demagogues who try to save it.

James Presson’s (Book) plays include FUCK MARRY KILL (Lincoln Center Lab, dir. Sash Bischoff), LONG DIVISION (Portland Center Stage JAW Fest), OUTLAWS (Goodspeed New Musicals, music/lyrics by Oyen, dir. Noah Himmelstein), FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS (Walkerspace), LITTLE TOWN BLUES (Wild Project), LITTLE MAC, LITTLE MAC, YOU’RE THE VERY MAN (Less Than Rent, co-written with SP Monahan), MONEY$HOT (Orlando Rep, music/lyrics by Oyen), and THE ICEBERG THEORY (Sewanee Writers Conference). He co-wrote VOICES IN CONFLICT with Bonnie Dickinson, which ran at The Vineyard Theatre and Fairfield Theatre Company. He later collaborated on the teleplay for the film version that aired on PBS and was awarded two Regional Emmy Awards. Directing projects include DIVA (United Solo, “Best Musical” and “Audience Choice Award”), OUR TOWN (Green-Wood Cemetery), RICHARD 3 (FringeNYC, “Best Director” and “Best Actor), and BECKETT IN BENGHAZI (with LTR). He was a Dramatists Guild Fellow and member of the ASCAP workshop in 2014 and one of Indie Theater Now’s People of the Year in 2013, with Less Than Rent Theatre. TV Credits include Vinyl(HBO) as well as the upcoming Civil (TNT) and Get Shorty (Epix).

Alexander Sage Oyen (Music & Lyrics) is the recipient of the 2014 ASCAP Foundation’s Lucille and Jack Yellen award for lyricists. His musicals include OUTLAWS (Goodspeed Festival of New Musicals- book by James Presson, dir. Noah Himmelstein), DISCOUNT GHOST STORIES! (with Jessica Kahkoska) ARCHIE’S FINAL PROJECT (Book by James Presson and David Lee Miller), DIVA (book by Sean Patrick Monahan), A NIGHT LIKE THIS (book, music, lyrics, directed by Blayze Teicher, 54 Below) and MOMENT BY MOMENT (directed by Brandon Ivie, 54 Below. He and collaborator James Presson were awarded the 2013-2014 Dramatist Guild Fellowship and their musical, OUTLAWS, was the recipient of the 2014 ASCAP Workshop. He was named one of Playbill’s “Contemporary Musical Theatre Writers You Should Know,” and he was selected for the 2014 Johnny Mercer Songwriter’s Project. His music has been heard at Lincoln Center, Goodspeed Opera House, Symphony Space, 54 Below, Joe’s Pub, Playwrights Horizons, The Signature Theatre, New World Stages, The Laurie Beechman Theatre and venues in Thailand, London, The Netherlands and all across the world. His theatrical rock band, Discount Ghost Stories! can be seen playing through every borough and the astral plains. The cast album for his song cycle, MOMENT BY MOMENT, is available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon. Proud member of ASCAP and The Dramatists Guild.
