event description event description

In this second collaboration between the Met and Le Poisson Rouge, composer Nico Muhly curates and hosts an eclectic evening of music in anticipation of his opera “Two Boys,” premiering at the Met in October 2013. “This evening at LPR is going to be fun; we’re going to assemble a few singers from the show and a few people not involved in it at all. We’ll play things I love, things they love, things I’ve written, and things from the 17th century.” The lineup will include two selections from “Two Boys” and feature Met singers Jennifer Zetlan and Paul Appleby, with the composer on piano. Muhly will also perform selections for piano and viola with featured artist Nadia Sirota, his frequent collaborator. Special guests will include violin duo Angela and Jennifer Chun.

She returned to the Met for Le Nozze di Figaro and makes debuts with the American Composers Orchestra and the Omaha Symphony, as well as with the National Chorale in performances of Orff’s Carmina Burana. She also returns to Nashville Opera as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. This fall she will appear as Rebecca in the Met premiere of Nico Muhly’s Two Boys.

Nadia Sirota

Hailed by the New York Times as “a bold new-music interpreter and the violist of choice among downtown ensembles these days,” violist Nadia Sirota has been praised for her “command and eloquence,” (Boston Globe) and for being one of New York’s “brightest, busiest players” (Time Out New York). She is best known for her unique interpretations of new scores and for commissioning and premiering works by some of the most talented composers of her generation, including Marcos Balter, Caleb Burhans, Judd Greenstein, Missy Mazzoli, and Nico Muhly.
