Over the last 15 years, Jamie Lidell has cemented his reputation as an artist refusing easy categorization—and that restless spirit follows the British poly-genre wizard into Building a Beginning, his sixth studio album and follow-up to 2013’s wild-eyed self-titled effort. Whereas Jamie Lidell was a full-body immersion into strident electro and pop sounds, Building a Beginning is Lidell purifying himself in the waters of smooth, earthy psychedelic soul—think the subtle low end on Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, the swirling loveliness of Temptations’ Cloud Nine, and the beatific radiance of Stevie Wonder, all imbued with Lidell’s distinctive songwriting touch and impossibly gorgeous vocals.

This album is Lidell’s most personal work to date, a meditation on love and family brought on by the birth of Lidell’s first child, Julian—not coincidentally, the subject of Building a Beginning’s ebullient shaker “Julian.” “I wanted to write something that he wants to jump around to,” Lidell says while addressing the song’s breezy brightness, explaining that the song came from a desire to express “the energy and joy that’s now in our life.”

Working with some of the best players in the game such as Pino Palladino (bass, Gary Numan, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton), DaRu Jones (drums, Jack White), Pat Sansone (multi-instrumentalist, Wilco), Kudisan Kai, Traci Brown Bailey, and Tiffany Smith (backup-vocals, Chaka Khan), production from Justin Stanley (Beck, Prince, Leonard Cohen, Paul McCartney) and Ben Ash (Two Inch Punch), mixing from Jake Aron (Le1f, Fort Lean) and most importantly from Jamie’s wife, Lindsey Rome who was deeply involved co-writing all the albums incredibly personal lyrics (and taking all the new photos), Lidell’s raw talent is brought to the fxorefront.

Recent years have seen Jamie collaborating with some new friends and artists, resulting in a Grammy nod for his work with Lianne La Havas and a hit single for his featured vocal’s on A-Trak‘s “We All Fall Down”. “Walk Right Back”, the first single to be shared from the new project on Lidell’s new label home and own imprint, Jajulin Records, is available today on all digital platforms and as an instant grat with album pre-order. Listen and read Jamie’s first interview on The FADER here. Lidell is known for putting on an amazing live show and will bring a bevy of some of the best players on the road this fall – European dates below and North American dates to be announced soon.

Building A Beginning will be released worldwide on October 14th on Jajulin Records.

As a follow up to her critically acclaimed album “Promise”, Emily Wells will release an EP of B sides, remixes / live arrangements March 3, 2017. With a belief in the sovereignty of melody to hold a song to itself, Wells consistently bends and re-renders her original works to almost entirely new forms in her live performances. Not wanting her months of touring to fall away entirely to the ephemeral Wells has recorded a few of the arrangements in their new forms. There are also the songs written and recorded during the creation of “Promise” that were not made for the record. This release seeks to give all of these works a home. She will tour in support of the EP in select US and European cities.

Praise for Wells’ latest full length “Promise” + Live performances:

• “Quietly transfixing…Ms. Wells works in the manner of what Walt Whitman called “a noiseless, patient spider,” sending out filament after filament until a structure begins to form.” –NEW YORK TIMES

•”The shape-shifting string virtuoso ignores genre boundaries while conjuring a uniquely affecting session of atmospheric folk…” – RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY

• “Extraordinary, presenting a sort of ambient gospel-folk music that’s immersed in secular desires and experiences.” – NPR

• “…unconventional and rather moving..” – NOISEY

• “‘Promise’ is a record like few others – both tangible and smoky, guttural and delicate, it treads atop a thin sheet of ice throughout, yet remains unafraid to bask in the warmth of its creator.” – DIY

DJ Shiftee

2x DMC World Champ + Dancefloor Destroyer + Harvard Math Grad + Top 10 Producer =

New York City’s Shiftee has translated his intuitive math geek mentality into far-reaching success on the turntables, electrifying crowds from NYC to London to Hong Kong. With a degree from Harvard, 2 unique DMC World Champion titles, a NYU adjunct professorship, a top 10 debut release on Beatport’s Dubstep charts, a membership in the supergroup Mostly Robot, a finger on the pulse of bass music, and an ongoing international tour schedule, this overachiever can do it all.

On Sept. 12, 2009, DJ Shiftee represented the USA in the 2009 DMC World DJ Finals. He took the title, was automatically inducted into the DMC DJ Hall of Fame and brought the fabled gold Technics turntables back to NYC! This new title places his name along side over 20+ legendary DMC World Champs including Craze, A-Trak, Cash Money, DJ Cheese, Rock Steady DJs (Apollo, Mix Master Mike & Q-Bert), Plus One of Jack Beats, and the late Grand Master Roc Raida. In 2007, Shiftee also became the only American DJ to date to have won the DMC Battle for World Supremacy title. This victory served as the catalyst for widespread international recognition, allowing Shiftee to take his talent and creativity across Asia, Europe, and the US to some of the world’s biggest clubs, most prestigious venues, and monster festivals. His groundbreaking DJ mixes have been featured on BBC 1Xtra, Mishka Keep Watch, Kiss 100 (UK), Deepsession, Seclusias’ Who Run It!? Podcast, The Rub’s Scion AV Show, Dubset, Dubspot, Boundless NY, Noise 212, KNKT3D Magazine, Noisy Dubs, and more. Mishka recently ranked his “Keep Watch” mix the most memorable of the entire series.

Having already established himself as master in the DJ world, Shiftee has been turning heads as a producer. His debut release Space Ace, a collaboration with Rx on Rad Summer, hit top 10 on Beatport’s dubstep charts. His originals and remixes have been receiving support from Rustie (BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix), Starkey, Royal-T, Udachi, Baauer (BBC Diplo & Friends Mix), Plastician, Crizzly, DJ Wonder (Rinse FM), Nick Catchdubs, Pictureplane, Spooky, Dev79, Elijah (Butterz), Mess Kid, Selecta Fewie, Rx, Sonkin, Lamin Fofana, and more. With tunes already out on Hot Mom USA, Rad Summer, Seclusiasis, Deepsession, and LU20 plus forthcoming releases + remixes on Slit Jockey, Dutty Artz, & Seclusiasis, Shiftee is definitely a producer to watch.

Shiftee is also a renowned educator in the field of DJing and DJ technology. He is an adjunct professor at New York University, the Director of DJ Curriculum at the prestigious Dubspot school in NYC, and an endorsed artist & product specialist for Native Instruments. The man understands DJing! Beyond teaching, Shiftee spends his time figuring out new and innovative ways to decimate the dancefloor. He fuses an astute ear for cutting edge music with a world champion skill set & grasp of technology, creating an experience that is always jaw dropping.
