Lisa Dierbeck is the author of the novels The Autobiography of Jenny X, an O, the Oprah Magazine book of the month and Vanity Fair Hot Type selection, and One Pill Makes You Smaller, a New York Times Notable Book. Twice nominated for a Pushcart Prize, Dierbeck’s work has been anthologized in such volumes as O’s Guide to Life: the Best of O the Oprah Magazine and Heavy Rotation: 20 Writers on the Albums that Changed Their Lives. Dierbeck co-founded the Mischief+Mayhem writers’ collective in association with OR Books. Launched on a shoestring, the independent venture is a response to growing commercial pressures in the publishing industry. Programs include “Transmissions: a Symposium on the Literature of AIDS,” co-organized with The New School Creative Writing Graduate Program and “Unprintable,” a monthly reading series at Le Poisson Rouge. Dierbeck has contributed to The Boston Globe, Glamour, The New York Times Book Review, The New York Observer, O, the Oprah Magazine, Time Out New York and others. Her work as a writer and alternative digital-age publisher has been covered in such local, national and international outlets as: El Globo, The Believer, Craine’s, The Financial Times, The Huffington Post, The Los Angeles Times, New York, The New York Times Book Review, The New York Times, The New York Observer, Newsday, O, the Oprah Magazine,Vanity Fair and WNYC radio.
