Dejan Lazic’s fresh interpretations of the repertoire have established him as one of the most unique and unusual soloists of his generation. He appears with such orchestras as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Netherlands Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Swedish Radio, Danish National, Chicago Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and the Australian, Netherlands, and Basel Chamber Orchestras.
Lazic enjoys a significant following in the Far East appearing with NHK Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon, Sapporo Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic and Hong Kong Philharmonic, amongst others. Building close collaborations with some of today’s most sought after conductors these include Giovanni Antonini, Lionel Bringuier, Iván Fischer, Andris Nelsons, Vasily Petrenko, Robert Spano, John Storgårds, Krzysztof Urbanski and Osmo Vänskä.
Summer 2014 saw Dejan Lazic make his debut with the Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival with Krzysztof Urbanski and at the Aspen Festival, appearing both as soloist and composer, performing the world premiere of his Piano Concerto in Istrian Style, Op. 18 under the direction of Robert Spano. He also gave a recital at the Lanaudiére Festival in Canada which immediately reinvited him for the Scriabin anniversary in 2015. Returning to Europe he is guest artist with the Trondheim Symphony under their Music Director Krzysztof Urbanski for performances at the Chopin Festival, Warsaw. He also opened Trondheim’s own season performing his own arrangement of Brahms’ Violin Concerto as a Piano Concerto.
The 2014/15 season also sees Lazic with Danish National Symphony/Vasily Petrenko, SWR Symphony Stuttgart/Kazuki Yamada, Netherlands Philharmonic/Ivor Bolton, Belgrade Philharmonic/Muhai Tang, with Helsinki Philharmonic and John Storgårds both in their main season and on an extensive tour of South America. Enjoying equal success in a chamber orchestra setting, he partners the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra with leader Gordan Nikolic and the Manchester Camerata with Gábor Takács-Nagy. Performing in recital Dejan Lazic returns to the London International Piano Series at the Southbank Centre after successful recitals internationally in the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires and Sydney Opera House.
With Channel Classics he has released a dozen recordings, including his critically acclaimed Liaisons series; the latest of which couples together C.P.E. Bach and Britten. His live recording of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with London Philharmonic Orchestra/Kirill Petrenko received the prestigious German Echo Klassik Award 2009. His next release will be a recording of the Beethoven Triple Concerto for Sony Music.
Dejan Lazic’s compositions are receiving increased recognition. His works include various piano compositions, chamber music and orchestral works, as well as cadenzas for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven Piano Concertos. His arrangement of Brahms’ Violin Concerto for piano and orchestra was premiered with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Robert Spano in 2009 and was also released on disc in January 2010 to great acclaim. Since then Dejan performed it at the BBC Proms, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Hamburg Easter Festival, Chopin Festival Warsaw, in both Americas and in Japan.
Born into a musical family in Zagreb, Croatia, Lazic grew up in Salzburg, Austria, where he studied at the Mozarteum. He now lives in Amsterdam.
