ANGELA MCCLUSKEY

Hailed by Vanity Fair as a “chortling, cussing, room-dominating force of nature,” Scottish singer/songwriter Angela McCluskey signed with Geffen Records in the ’90s and first achieved recognition as the singer of her cult LA-based band, Wild Colonials. She released three albums: Fruit of Life (1993), This Can’t Be Life (1996) and Reel Life in 2000. In that same year, Angela also released Curio, an album of covers she recorded with husband Paul Cantelon, Lili Haydn, and cellist Martin Tillman. In 2004, after touring America with renowned artists, from Michael Stipe, Cyndi Lauper and Chris Isaac to King Crimson, Toad the Wet Sprocket and The Latin Playboys, she wrote the number #1 best selling GRAMMY nominated song, Breathe, with French electronic trio, Telepopmusik. In between Genetic World (2003) and Angel Milk (2005) – her two records with Telepopmusik – Angela signed with Arif Mardin to the celebrated Blue Note label and had a critically acclaimed album, The Things We Do, again to thunderous praise. In 2010, her release You Could Start a Fight in An Empty House, brought recognition from the Guardian, amongst other critics, who heralded her voice and style “an incredible juxtaposition of the greats: Beth Gibbons, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone.”
